DuPont Performance Elastomers, a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.I. dupont de Nemours & Company, is the leading manufacturer of mid-to-high performance Elastomers with 1,200 employees worldwide and six plants with operations in over 25 countries. At the LaPlace facility we manufacture Neoprene, one of the first synthetic rubbers, known for its strength, durability, elasticity, toughness and superior resistance to oils, gasoline and sunlight. Neoprene is widely used in automotive, construction and general rubber applications.
DuPont Performance Elastomer's LaPlace facility employs 235 employees and approximately 138 contractors. Our employees are active members of the community, giving back to the communities in which they work, participating in such programs as the United Way, Wildlife Habitat Council, Household Hazardous Material Collection Day and Mentoring Programs.
Since 1987 (first reporting year), total emissions from the Neoprene process have decreased by 84%, air emissions by 66% and land emissions by over 98%. 2006 emissions are slightly higher than 2005 emissions due t o an increase in production.
This facility has received seven Louisiana Governor’s Outstanding Pollution Prevention Achievement Awards for projects that were implemented to reduce waste generated at the site. DuPont Performance Elastomers is committed to Responsible Care®,
