In April 2005, Air Products purchased the Reserve facility but continued to operate as Tomah Reserve, Inc., to allow time for our customers to acclimate to the change while getting the most benefit from existing Tomah name recognition. Currently, it is planned to legally change the name of the facility to Air Products this year, and then the Tomah name will be disenfranchised and emissions reporting will be conducted as Air Products.
Tomah’s Reserve plant is a small specialty chemical facility with 28 employees. Our main product is nonionic surfactants – or more simply - liquid soaps.
Tomah remains committed to assuring environmental excellence through continual improvement, while sustaining business and production capabilities at world class levels. Evidence of this commitment includes our memberships in the Louisiana Environmental Leadership Program and EPA’s National Performance Track, our corporate environmental policy to achieve the highest environmental performance level and our Responsible Care (RC) – 14001 registration.
Tomah’s RC-14001 Management System is designed to assure that the Reserve Plant will comply with all Responsible Care® guiding principles. This management system provides guidance for facilities to make continuous progress toward a vision of no accidents, injuries or harm to the environment and to publicly report health, safety and environmental performance.
In 2006 annual production at the facility decreased from 49.8 to 48.6 million pounds which represents a 2.4% decrease. Air emission rates remained constant relative to production which resulted in a corresponding decrease in reported emissions from 1,875 to 1,747 pounds. Manufacture of a new product at Reserve produced a new waste stream that was transferred off-site for disposal. This new disposal quantity of 56,300 pounds is represented in the off-site disposal category.
The Tomah Reserve facility endeavors to maintain world class performance, and commitment to improvement of environmental, safety and security measures. One of our goals is to make St. John Parish a better community/environment to live and work in both today and tomorrow.
